Melbourne Cup - The Race that stops a nation

My first Australian event was the Melbourne Cup. A really special day which happens on all first Tuesdays in November. An incredible day. All Australians wear their most beautiful clothes for this particular day. Everybody looks so smart on the street, it's like a hudge wedding !! At 02.00 pm all Australian people watch the Melbourne Cup on TV. Everybody stops working, your boss does the same too, so you can't see anyone on the streets or in the shops.

If you want to know how important the horse race is, you must know one thing : The Melbourne Cup is the only sporting event in the country where most Australians bet monney, surprisingly the race only last two minutes !! A lot of Australians bet on horses for this day. It's really amazing !!
